The Industry-Led Association for Fusion Energy in Europe
Europe is moving fast on nuclear fusion, and now is the time to work together. Across the world, investments in fusion technologies are growing, new pilot plants are being planned or built, and collaborations between industry and research organisations are expanding.
The Industry-Led Association for Fusion Energy in Europe (FUSION NOW AISBL) was established in summer 2025 to bring together companies, SMEs, start-ups, investors, research organisations, universities, and other stakeholders. Its purpose is to support the development of fusion technologies and strengthen Europe’s leadership in this emerging energy sector.
- Shape the Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for fusion energy in Europe.
- Engage in a European Partnership co-programmed with the European Commission.
- Ensuring that industry priorities are reflected in European strategic programming and funding opportunities.
- Enable collaboration across the value chain through the European Fusion Stakeholders Platform (EFSP).
- Unlock new funding pathways by promoting the development of co-funded projects, demonstrators, and supply-chain initiatives.

General Information
- FUSION NOW is the Industry-Led Association (ILA) for Fusion Energy in Europe aimed at establishing a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the European Commission (EC) following the Co-Programmed Partnership model under the EURATOM framework.
- It is an international non-profit association dedicated to partnership with the EC.
- For more details visit the website here.
- FUSION NOW has been designated as the primary industry body to advise the EC on the definition of program calls regarding PPP under the EURATOM framework. As part of this role, FUSION NOW will regularly update the Fusion European Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
- The aim is to formalize a collaboration with the EC by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), monitor the progress of the partnership through boards and reports, and promote new co-funded projects.
- A collaboration between the EC and private/public partners to address key European challenges through joint Research & Innovation (R&I) activities, based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) within the EURATOM programme.
- For further information about the types of EU partnerships visit the website here.
- Other partnership examples in the field of Climate Energy and Mobility are available here.
- The SRIA is a strategic document that defines challenges, actions and priorities of critical technologies for the European public-private partnership on fusion. The Agenda will offer a comprehensive framework to guide PPP research and innovation activities: the SRIA is an essential tool for guiding research investments, fostering innovation, and positioning Europe as a leader in the commercial deployment of fusion energy.
- The SRIA will form the basis of advice to the commission on future PPP EURATOM Calls.
- The PPP is not a legal entity but a partnership agreement between FUSION NOW and the European Commission governed by a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
- The MoU defines the objectives (general, specific and operational) of the PPP in line with the SRIA, the financial and in-kind commitments of the partners (the EU and FUSION NOW) to the programme, and monitoring mechanisms for reporting results vs objectives through KPIs.

- Be represented on behalf of FUSION NOW within the Co-Programmed European Partnership with the European Commission.
- Contribute to shaping the SRIA and to the advice provided to the EC on program funding priorities.
- FUSION NOW will promote matchmaking of project ideas and expertise across the stakeholders – industry, SMEs, start-ups, RTOs and academia
- Obtain the latest information on opportunities for co-funding and innovative projects.
- GO4FUSION is a consortium with a finite lifespan that has been created following a European Commission Call on Coordinated Support Action.
- The objectives of GO4FUSION include:
- Consolidating a stakeholder network;
- Setting up FUSION NOW;
- Draft the MoU that enables the PPP;
- Preparing the first SRIA.
- GO4FUSION work will therefore lay the groundwork leading to the creation of the PPP
- These objectives are expected to be achieved in early 2026 at which time GO4FUSION activities will be gradually passed to FUSION NOW. The CSA Action and GO4FUSION activities will be ended within 2026.
- The SRIA is currently being handled by GO4FUSION project. Until a final draft is available, which is expected by Q1 2026 FUSION NOW will not request additional contributions from stakeholders.
Membership
- Membership is open to companies in the Fusion sector (manufacturers, suppliers, service providers), start-ups, SMEs and large enterprises active in the sector as well as research centers, universities and other categories listed in the Membership Application Form (LINK).
- The first membership campaign will be open to companies with an established presence in the EURATOM Member Countries (EU27+Switzerland+Ukraine).
- New membership applications will be evaluated progressively.
- Another criterion is that the Association must maintain a composition with at least 66% industry representation, as it is an industry-led organisation.
- Applications are reviewed by the Secretariat for eligibility and formal completeness before being forwarded to the Board of Directors for decision.
- At present, the transitioning governing board includes seven organizations: five from industry and two research centers all coming from the GO4FUSION project. There are five official members. We are currently undertaking a membership campaign, after which all member organizations will be publicly listed on the FUSION NOW website. Currently, most applications come from industry.
- The preliminary estimation of the fees was provided in the Application form for 2026, but they will be subject to validation by the first General Assembly early in 2026. The preliminary estimation is detailed in the Membership Application Form that you can find here: LINK.
- The fees paid by members will be used for the ordinary work of the association, for an effective secretariat, to manage the update of the SRIA, as well as the monitoring requirements of the KPIs set in the MoU. Dissemination activities will also be considered. Finally, FUSION NOW will need to cover administrative costs to run the Association.
- The first General Assembly and the election of the new partnership board is foreseen in the first months of the next year, as soon as we have reached a critical mass of FUSION NOW members.
- The working groups are expected to start next year.
- You can join the EFSP directly from the GO4FUSION website.
Public-Private Partnership and EURATOM calls
- This approach is not new: under the Horizon Europe framework, similar models have already been implemented—for example in the hydrogen and batteries partnerships.
- No, membership to FUSION NOW is not mandatory. FUSION NOW is the only entity that will sign the partnership agreement with the EC.
- FUSION NOW will be the single-entry point for updating the SRIA and for communicating priorities to the EC.
- The Partnership Board and the SRIA will be the main advisory body for the EC in defining the future PPP actions and call.
- The purpose of FUSION NOW is to ensure that the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) is regularly updated and reflects a broad consensus. It is a key document that the EC will use in defining the programmes to be financed. It is therefore essential to keep this document dynamic and continuously enriched with new input.
FUSION NOW and European Trade Associations
- FUSION NOW’s interests are at a European level and are focused on the Co-Programmed Partnership with the European Commission.
- FUSION NOW has been created with a purpose that does not involve:
- Undertaking political lobbying activities;
- Pursuing funding opportunities outside of the PPP programmes supported by the European Commission.
- We are currently in discussions with various European Fusion trade Associations to determine the best way to involve them and ensure they have a meaningful role.
